Weekend Wanderlust: Nassau, Bahamas

Weekend Wanderlust: Nassau, Bahamas

A short flight from New York City on a crisp Friday afternoon swept me away to the vibrant yet serene paradise of Nassau, Bahamas. Stepping off the plane with, the balmy island air felt like an embrace, signaling the start of a weekend dedicated to relaxation and indulgence. Nestled in the lush surroundings of Lyford Cay, my stay at The Island House set the tone for a weekend steeped in luxury. With its seamless blend of modern sophistication and a connection to the local community, the property is more than a resort—it's a sanctuary. The carefully designed spaces, from the art house cinema to the serene lap pool, provided endless opportunities to unwind and reconnect.

Dinner on my first evening was an exquisite experience at Shima, the rooftop jewel of The Island House. The flavors of Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia were thoughtfully showcased in every bite, and my meal on the expansive terrace was accompanied by panoramic views of the Lyford Cay Marina. The pork belly baos—a perfect balance of tender, savory, and subtly sweet—paired beautifully with an inventive bourbon cocktail from Bar Shima. As the sun set over the crystal waters, I couldn’t imagine a more enchanting start to the weekend.
Saturday was all about basking in in the sun and perfecting the art of ‘intentional stillness’. I spent the morning lounging by the pool at The Island House, alternating between the pages of a novel (The Fellowship of the Puzzlemakers) and friendly conversations with locals. By lunchtime, we surrendered to the indulgence of midday ‘loaded’ daiquiris.

By midday, I found myself at the

Old Fort Bay Club

, on a private stretch of pristine beach. With a cucumber mojito (or two) in hand and the rhythmic sound of the waves in the background, I surrendered to the simplicity of the moment. A sunset swim in the tranquil turquoise waters felt almost spiritual—a perfect balance of stillness and vitality.

The evening brought a more formal touch of elegance at Café Boulud at Rosewood Baha Mar. From the moment I stepped into its sophisticated dining room, I felt transported to a space where French tradition meets Caribbean warmth. The menu, inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud’s culinary muses, offered a journey of flavors, which I began with the indulgent Foie Gras Terrine and white cosmopolitan adorned with a frozen orchid. As I savored the fresh flavors of the Caribbean, I couldn’t help but marvel at the thoughtfulness behind every detail. Our entree, the Dover Sole for two was a standout—a rich, indulgent dish perfectly complemented by seasonal Caribbean ingredients and a glass of Sancerre.

On Sunday morning, I lingered over a latte, at Yellowbell letting the peaceful energy of the weekend wash over me one last time. With Nassau’s vibrant charm still in my heart, I headed to the airport, refreshed and inspired. This trip wasn’t just a weekend away; it was a reminder of the beauty of embracing the present, indulging in small luxuries, and finding joy in simple pleasures.
